The International Council of Complementary Medicine and Wellness Therapy (ICCMWT) is an initiative launched by global practitioners who believe that traditional and complementary medicines and therapies play a significant role in global wellness. With over 30 years of continuous support to global communities, they have now decided to adopt a structured approach to research and development in this field, leading to the formation of ICCMWT. The objective of the International Council of Complementary Medicine and Wellness Therapy (ICCMWT) to extensive research, promote, support and preserve the practice of traditional and complementary medicine and wellness therapy globally. ICCMWT's objectives broadly includes: 1.Research and Development: Foster research in traditional and complementary medicine by facilitating collaborations, funding research projects, and disseminating research findings. This helps in validating practices and integrating them into mainstream healthcare. 2.Education and Training: Provide education and training resources to practitioners and healthcare professionals. This could include accreditation programs, certification standards, and continuing education opportunities to maintain the competency of practitioners. 3.Preservation of Knowledge: Document, preserve, and promote the traditional medicinal knowledge of indigenous and local communities. This ensures that valuable cultural heritage is not lost and is respected within modern medical practices. 4.Policy Advocacy and Regulatory Frameworks: Work with governments and international health organizations to create supportive policies that integrate traditional and complementary medicine within national health systems. This may also include assisting in developing regulatory frameworks that protect consumers and ensure practitioner accountability. 5.Public Awareness and Acceptance: Increase public awareness and acceptance of traditional and complementary medicine through education, outreach, and evidence-based information. 6.International Collaboration and Dialogue: Facilitate international dialogue and cooperation among countries, regions, and cultures to share knowledge, practices, and research in traditional and complementary medicine. 7.Ethical Practices: Ensure ethical practices in the use and promotion of traditional and complementary medicine, including respect for biodiversity and the intellectual property rights of indigenous peoples and local communities. 8.Health Access and Equity: Improve access to healthcare by integrating cost-effective and culturally appropriate traditional and complementary medicine into health systems, particularly in underserved and rural areas. 9.Certification and Licensing: Develop and manage certification and licensing procedures for practitioners to ensure that only qualified individuals are allowed to practice, thereby protecting the public from unqualified practitioners. ICCMWT would play a critical role in the global health landscape by leveraging the strengths of various medical traditions and ensuring they are used safely, effectively, and ethically alongside modern medical practices. |
